Set Free to Live Free by Dr. Saundra Dalton Smith is about removing limitations, misconceptions and insecurities in a woman’s life. Her book is based on seven lies that women tell themselves: perfection, envy, image, balance, control, emotions and limits. She details the root behind the lie, offers solution to overcome the obstacle and then ends each chapter with a set of scripture verses for reflection and meditation.
Set Free to Live Free is more of a handbook than a self-help book. She shares stories of personal encounters with her patients and how she helped these women overcome their limitations. Dr. Smith noticed a common pattern of behavior in women and saw it was possible for women to breakthrough the lies they tell themselves.
As I read the book during my own weight loss struggle, I really connected with chapter seven about personal image lies. Dr. Smith asked a series of questions, I replied and then as I continued reading I discovered all my answers were incorrect and would set me up for yet another diet failure. With the knowledge gained in the book I was able adjust and refocus my responses and create a path for freedom in the area of personal image. The scripture verses reinforce the lessons in the book.
