Loving Well Bible Study Week Four

By November 13, 2011Loving Well

Welcome back to online bible study at the Womens Bible Cafe. We’ve finished our study of Loving Well by Beth Moore, and it was so good I’m ready to go back and listen again and again. Beth just amazes me with her personal story and her teaching style throughout out study. For a few minutes I paused my video and let her words sink in: “God is the Loving Well.” When she gave examples of loving others with a Christlike heart…I knew she was speaking to me. Now that I’ve completed this study, I’m on a personal mission to love Testy just like Jesus would. I am drawing Living Water from the Loving Well.

Many thanks to Raye Holmes for leading this four-week online bible study. Here is our final update from Raye.

The 4 different kinds of people Beth spoke of were: Joy – the one that is such a pleasure to love; Testy – the one that is our “test” to love, the one that works the nerves beyond anything; Far – that homeless person on the corner and Foe – that one person that is hated, the one that we may cringe we see them.  For us to love these different kinds of people, ourselves we first must have a genuine relationship with God. The only way we can love is thru God. To get to that point we must find time, make time, want time to sit in the presence of God and allow Him to love on us, we love on Him and together – us and God love others! Beth Moore said that God will not give through us what we do not let Him give to us!

Another subject that Beth touched on was that “nothing can separate us from the love of God”! Beth said that “we will not love well until we feel well loved”. We have got walk in the freedom that Jesus died on the cross for! Our shame, our guilt, our failures, our jealousy, etc.! God’s grace and mercy is renewed each and everyday! When we walk around with feelings that we are not good enough for God and having a hard time loving ourselves, then we are not walking in God’s love! We have got to always know that there is not one thing that can keeps us from the love of God!

We all must become that person that doesn’t just know how much God loves us, but experience it as well. We experience that love by loving others: joy, foe, far and testy! My prayer for us all is as Beth Moore put it ‘let us start loving because we are loved not so we can be loved’.

I have realized that I have to be more understanding of others whether they are a testy, foe, or far. I learned that God puts these people in our lives for a reason and we have an opportunity to allow the love that God has for us to flow through us.

How is God using a Testy, Foe, Joy or Far person in your life to serve His purpose?

Because of my childhood victimization I have had many questions for the people in my life that were foes. In fact, I had even decided it was time to actually confront one of them and initiate a conversation about the events that occurred over many years so long ago. After watching these tapes I realized that I am not going to do that. When Beth said “hanging on to my unforgiveness was causing me to be emotionally molested over and over again and again” I realized I did not need to confront anyone in order to lay down the grudge as a sacrifice to God.

Realizing that if we think others are testy we need to understand that to them we are also a testy. I pray that God will use my moments of “testy-ness” to show me how to love others the way that God would expect me to. Beth reminds us that we won’t be well until we help someone who can’t help us – someone that can’t love us back. I pray for an unselfish heart that will allow God’s love to flow through me to those who God has put in my life to love well.

Would you recommend this study to a friend? Why or why not?

Anyone who relates with others on a personal level whether it be family, friends, co-workers, or even the random people we cross paths with on a daily basis could benefit from watching these tapes. The tapes could be summed up with the childhood rule “treat others as you would like to be treated”, but sadly we get caught up in ourselves becoming selfish, self-centered lovers of self. We have ceased relating on the heart level. We have hardened hearts because we have been deceived. Beth reminds us “we will not love well until we feel well loved”, so these tapes tell us we need to deal with our injured hearts and shattered lives in order. I pray that I will be more loving to people of all types because we are unfailingly loved by God.

Thank you Raye, for taking the time to lead us in this wonderful, life changing study. And thanks also to Christine for the opportunity you have allowed us by moderating these online Bible studies. God bless you both for sharing your hearts with us.

    1. I used to get immediately tensed up and on guard seeing Testy. I’m much calmer and view things from what feels like a broader prospective when I see Testy coming my way. I’m more patient with myself and
    2. Helping me find new boundaries with myself, bigger opportunities to love and use that mustard seed of patience that I’m diligently trying to grow. I see myself at times being testy. The past several years I’ve turned into her and WHOA!!! this was an eye opener!
    3. Beth’s “Loving Well” comment was big.
    4. Beth’s study has been transforming for me…YES! I’ve become a groupie of this woman and now I cannot get enough and hope to do all her studies! Yes, Yes, Yes and YES!

Without a doubt my favorite moment was when Beth made the point that God is the “Loving Well”. Throughout the entire study I was thinking of Loving Well as an action and when she said this, a tingle went up my spine and spread throughout my body and it brought tears to my eyes. I was moved!

    4. Would you recommend this study to a friend? Why or why not?
Absolutely! The material in this short study is life-changing.

1.What changes have you noticed in the way you are loving others since completing this study? I am more patient and understanding. I’m focusing on the present and my mind is not like the bouncing ball jumping from one item on my to do list to another. I’m trying to help them in any way I can.
2.How is God using a Testy, Foe, Joy or Far person in your life to serve His purpose? By becoming more secure in God’s love I am able to work towards making Testy more secure in her physical and emotional situation by improving my relationship with her. I am actually with Testy this week and I’m not biting the bait. It is a wonderful feeling!!!!
3.Share a favorite moment from this week’s lesson. Becoming more aware of God’s constant love for me and ‘when God does His work, then we are “filled with all the fullness of God.”‘
