Bible study becomes an entirely new experience when you use the Glo Bible for your studies. This new bible was the winner of the 2010 ECPA book awards. The first thing I noticed when I installed the software was the clean, crisp look of the screen. The screen opens with four lenses: bible, timeline, atlas, topical and media. Click on the lens and you begin your walk through into the Word. When I clicked on bible, a scripture grid appeared with the old and new testament books. Next I clicked on  Galatians, clicked on the chapter I was learning, and quickly found what I needed. I was watching a Beth Moore DVD bible study, and able to use my Glo Bible to enhance my study. As Beth jumped to another scripture reference and made the common remark “save your place on that verse as we jump to another one” I was able to save my session and jump right back into the screen when Beth moved back again. No turning pages or trying to remember where the verse is located. Since I was using the New International Version in my Glo Bible, I was delighted to see the NIV remarks for the specific verse listed under “study notes.” To the right of the study notes, I had the option to view media related to the chapter. I could watch a HD video, see images, animations or maps- all linked to the passage I was studying. When I clicked on the media, I was able to see the location today and also the location in the time the scripture was written. I truly felt myself walking through the scriptures with my Glo Bible.

The Glo Bible is described as intuitive, yet I found I needed to watch the instruction videos in order to learn the software. I’m very technical and never read user manuals, so this was a bit frustrating for me. Admittedly, the videos were very helpful and each video was no more than four minutes long. The instructor in the videos has one of those soothing teacher voices, making her audience want to follow her every command. It’s worth the time invested to watch the videos before you use the program. Once you understand how to use the program, you can quickly navigate right through the bible. Now it only takes me two clicks to go anywhere in the bible. In fact, I can highlight a few chapters in the bible, click the atlas lens, and see exactly where on the map these events occurred. When I click on the city, I then see everything in scripture related to that city. In the images of the city, I have the birds-eye view like a Google map and I zoom in on key locations and take virtual tours through my Glo Bible. I’m excited to share this feature with my family as we discuss bible lessons together.

Currently the Glo Bible is available in four translations- NIV, ESV, KJV and The Message. The program is being updated with more translations and data. With the online version of the Glo Bible, I’m accessing the most updated data for my bible studies.  To see the Glo Bible in action, you can visit their website at GloBible.com. Right now you can download a free version of the Glo Bible with the NIV version only, or upgrade to the Premium Glo Bible for more features. The product is available for the Mac, PC, iPad and iPhone. Glo Lite can be downloaded for FREE on your Mac, PC, iPhone and iPad by going to www.globible.com
