Let the Words by Jennifer Rothschild

Since we are reading about Psalm 19 in our Me, Myself and Lies bible study, you may want to listen to the song Let the Words by Jennifer Rothschild.

You can buy this song on Jennifer Rothschild’s website, just click here.

One of the interesting aspects of a group Bible study is that the women often have different translations of the Bible. In my small group at church, each of the 14 women will have a different translation of the same verse. In our church small group, each of us has a “Bible Personality.” A few of us have the thick and heavy Life Application Bible, large print so we don’t need glasses to read it. Some have highlighted colors within the pages of their Bible, while others carry a family heirloom complete with artistic drawings and historical maps. We enjoy this because when we need more clarification and understanding of a scripture passage, we each read a different version of the same verse.

In our workbook study, Jennifer Rothschild is using the NASB so as I filled in the blank with my NIV translation, the words did not make sense. It’s times like these that I use an online bible such as Bible Gateway, Bible Study Tools or YouVersion. You can even get free bible applications for your iphone and carry a bible in your purse!

Here are the Bible translations for Psalm 19:14 (source: BibleGateway.com). Notice how the exact same verse sounds different in each translation.

King James Version (KJV)

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

New International Version (NIV)

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

New Living Translation (NLT)

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

New King James Version (NKJV)

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

American Standard Version (ASV)

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in thy sight, O Jehovah, my rock, and my redeemer.

Amplified Bible (AMP)

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer.

The Message (MSG)

There’s more: God’s Word warns us of danger and directs us to hidden treasure. Otherwise how will we find our way? Or know when we play the fool? Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh! Keep me from stupid sins, from thinking I can take over your work; Then I can start this day sun-washed, scrubbed clean of the grime of sin. These are the words in my mouth; these are what I chew on and pray. Accept them when I place them on the morning altar, O God, my Altar-Rock, God, Priest-of-My-Altar.

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCBS)

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.

Me, Myself and Lies Womens Online Bible Study

Please join us in a womens online bible study starting on January 10, 2011 as we explore the world of Me, Myself and Lies: A Thought Closet Makeover with Jennifer Rothschild. We’ll be reading this six week bible study together as we begin the new year. During the six weeks of study, you will read the workbook at home and come to the online Womens Bible Cafe once a week on Monday to join us in a small group discussion. There is no specific time for the discussion, you can visit the site at your convenience and post a comment about the lesson of the week. If you subscribe to the Womens Bible Cafe by email, you’ll receive an announcement in your email letting you know the discussion has started.

We invite you to join us and women around the world as we read scripture together and learn from one another. We are non-denominational and any woman with an interest in exploring womens bible study is invited to join us. All you need to attend is a copy of the workbook  Me, Myself and Lies: A Thought Closet Makeover by Jennifer Rothschild.

This is the second time we are leading this Jennifer Rothschild study at the Womens Bible Cafe. Here are some comments from the women who participated the first time:

  • This was a powerful study. I’m amazed at how cluttered my thought closet has been. I’m a work in progress and that’s okay as long as I keep Him centered in my thoughts and life. Linda
  • I am a prideful person. My thought closet these days is mostly full of prideful thoughts as I get caught up in the rush of daily activities and forget patience. This closet cleaning has been needed for an awfully long time, and it feels so good to get in there and figure this all out. Cindy
  • I love a study that is not only informative, but allows us to put into practice what we are learning. It reminds me of a statement Beth Moore made in her Stepping Up bible study about not just eating the seed of God’s word, but sowing the seed. I feel like that’s just what we’re accomplishing through this bible study. Amy

During our six-week study, we’ll discover what a thought closet is, unclutter the closet, fill the closet with truth, guard the closet door, and place God in the center of our thoughts. This is a powerful and life-changing study and one you will not want to miss!

God’s Presence in Our Study

Last night before going to bed I wrote this on the blog:

In every single case, my Wise Guide will grab both my feet (if they point in a wrong direction) and pull them back towards the wisdom of God! They are not giving me a gentle tug, they will give me a really hard dose of Biblical reality and wisdom.  She will encourage me with words from scripture, offer a prayer and send me right back to God with my problem. What a Blessing in my life.

Later in the evening, this happened:

Last night as we snuggled in bed, my seven-year-old daughter apologized for her bad behavior during the day. Earlier in the day she was disciplined for a lengthy temper tantrum when I told her that Club Penguin was no longer accessible. She earned herself 5 minutes of time out for her backtalk, until she discovered she had accumulated a 35 minute time out in her room. Angry, she kicked and pounded on the heavy mirrored doors of her bedroom closet, earning more time for her anger management.

In the evening, she wanted to apologize for saying “I wish you were dead. I wish God never made you. I wish you were not born.” I accepted he apology and explained that in anger we say hurtful things that we do not really mean. I showed my forgiveness and reminded her that I love her now and forever. I apologized for my own behavior when I became angry with her.

Continuing the conversation, my daughter then elaborated on the source of her anger. Remember, she is just 7 years old and speaks like Abigail.

“Mom, Satan grabbed hold of my feet. He walks with me all day long, holding my feet, waiting. Then he started going up my body to my stomach, past my heart and right to my mind when I was really angry. He knew I could not keep him away from my mind once I was angry. Inside my mind, Satan twisted my words and would not let me focus on God. He went back into my mouth and made me say things that I knew would hurt you. I’m sorry Mom, I know that it was wrong to let Satan past my feet. Sometimes God allows him to do that so God can show me how much I need him.”

Sisters, I am telling you that this is the Presence of the Lord our God.

If you are new in Bible Study, you’ll develop an intuition to recognize and know when God “speaks” to us.

Continue your Bible Study and Know Him.
