The Holy Spirit Unleashed in You Online Bible Study | Week 9

holy spirit unleashed in you

holy spirit unleashed in youWelcome back to our online Inductive Bible Study on the book of Acts, “The Holy Spirit Unleashed in You” at the Women’s Bible Cafe™. We just completed Week Ten, “Will You Declare the Truth–No Matter the Cost” and Week Eleven, “Bold and Confident Because of the Spirit.” This week’s study had such a great impact on me. I shared with you last week about the tragedy of the flood waters that overcame my home State of South Carolina. Well, the amazing flood of love that poured into our lives from thousands of people all over our State and beyond, donating their time and generous gifts, was far greater than the actual flood itself. What an amazing testimony for our Lord Jesus Christ! Paul, himself, shared the very words of Jesus with the city of Ephesus upon his departure:

“In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 NASB

During difficult times, we all feel like giving up. We make promises to do better, we pray more or try harder in hopes of finding our way out of the murky waters. Even when our best efforts don’t seem to work, God reminds us of the truth. He loves us and will never abandon us.   Paul never gave up. He had a mission set before Him, and he was determined to finish the race and complete the task God had given him.

“But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.” Acts 20:24 NASB

Paul battled through tears, overwhelming opposition, loneliness and weariness, but he never gave up on his calling to follow Jesus. However, he did not attempt to do it alone. Throughout his ministry, he was surrounded by a community of believers who encouraged and helped him. No matter what he experienced, he never gave up.

As Christians, don’t we have the exact same calling as Paul? To never give up? To finish the race? To complete the task? Remember, we do not have to do it alone. We are all in this journey of life together. We are running the same race. And we are here to encourage each other in the good times as well as the bad.  But the good news is, God is with us every step of the way.

Kay Arthur writes in the Thought for the Week:

“I commend you to God and to the Word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. Stay in His Word….”

  • Join a small group and fellowship with your fellow Bible students.
  • Complete your study of Week Twelve, “Unleashed for Obedience” and Week Thirteen, “His Witness–By His Spirit!” Pray before you begin your study. Ask your resident Teacher, the Holy Spirit, to open your heart to wisdom and understanding to learn His truths.
  • Write Acts 20:24 in your journal and store it in your heart.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR THIS WEEK (answer in small groups or post a comment here)

  1. Paul says in Acts 20:24 that he counts his life as nothing, except to finish the mission God has given him. What calling has God put on your life? What can you do today to obey God’s call?
  2. What is holding you back from the courageous faith and bold obedience like Paul’s? What can you do to overcome this roadblock?
  3. What do you see happening in your life as a result of doing this study in Acts? Is the “word of His grace” having an effect on your Life? Share how. (See Acts 20:32)
  4. What is the most difficult thing you have ever done for God? How did you get the courage and strength to do it? What were the results?
  5. From your study this week, what spoke to you the most or had a great impact on you the most?
