He Is My All Online Bible Study Week 3

psalm 467NIV

psalm 467NIV

Welcome back to our third week of online Bible study as we discuss He Is My All  by Debbie Alsdorf. This past week we learned about God’s love as real and practical. Knowing God is the author of your life story, I wonder what you would title your LifeBook, rather than your “Facebook.” It’s fascinating how we spend much of our lives writing our own stories…only to discover the real story is Jesus. Once we allow Him to become the key character and we center our life story around His presence, the entire story begins to make sense. Eugene Peterson writes in the Message Bible:

Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls! Hebrews 12:2-3 Message

Sometimes, we are so busy keeping others in our view instead of Jesus! We hold people we resent inside our hearts, waiting for them to say something that triggers our bitterness. We hold people who hurt us inside our hearts, refusing to forgive and tightening our hold on the victimization role. We keep our own past sins in the rear view mirror of life, and as we travel down the highway we keep looking behind us to see if we are being chased by them. What would happen if you keep your eyes on Jesus instead?

With eyes on Jesus, our heart flows with calmness instead of resentment. We forgive others and claim our identity as a Daughter of the King. We release our sins at the foot of the cross and we do not pick them up again. We move forward by faith…driven through obedience and love for God.

In Psalm 138:8 we learned that God completes us. Reflect on these words from the Psalm:

  • God vindicates me (NIV)
  • God perfects that which concerns me (Amplified, NKJV)
  • God does everything for me (God’s Word)
  • God works out His plan for my life (NLT)
  • God fulfills me (HCSB)

If you struggle with the reality of these Truths…then carry those struggles in prayer today. Don’t let worthless thoughts float through your heart… replace them with the wisdom of Scripture.

  2. 1.I can make time for God every day, and give Him my full attention at that time.
    2. I am aware of the spirit within me. At times I forget it’s there when I try to run my own life, but when I am still it always speaks up. The hard thing to do for me is to be still! It is so easy to get ‘busy’, but as this week in Bible study reminded me in 2 Corinthians 10:5 I am to ‘take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ’. Being truly aware takes mental training and persistence.
    3. I listen to Christian radio in the morning which helps, but most helpful these days is looking into the eyes of my infant son – I am so madly in love with my children, and recognized this week that God views me as His child and feels the same way about me. As Debbie said in the video that was posted on Facebook – it’s transferring from head to heart, and this week that realization struck a chord in my heart.
    4. God has blessed me with two children, and in the past couple of months has guided our family to find a new church community where we have been welcomed, child care for when I need to return to work in a Christian home, and time to be still in my maternity leave. I have been able to work on my relationship with God at this time. I believe He directed me to find this online Bible study which has been incredibly nurturing in that relationship.
    5. How much He loves me. Above even how a parent can love a child because God has a plan for my life which is more than I can come up with for my own children. He wants me to live a life of joy in His light and stop trying to steer my own ship; trust Him. The more time I spend studying His word the stronger I feel. I need to control my thoughts and direct them to God every single day; make it a priority to study and meditate on His word to give Him more room to work in my heart.

Q1. By simply making time for Him in my day; participating in this Bible Study is definitely a step to helping that happen.
Q2. I feel like I am not aware of the Holy Spirit living in me, in the same way that I am not aware of my heart beating in my chest. The Spirit is there in me, all the time, but there are certain times when His presence becomes more obvious- like when I’m reading scripture, or attending church, or listening to Way FM.
Q3. I have fixed my eyes on Jesus today by listening to Way FM, reading my Bible this morning, and participating in this Bible Study. But more than that following the teachings of Jesus help me to fix my eyes on Him. Matthew 7:12 says “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”
Q4. Helping me find this Bible Study is definitely something practical, powerful, AND real that God has done in my life. Due to my work schedule, I am unable to attend a Bible Study in person, by finding this one online, I am able to participate and become closer to God.
Q5. One of the things that has really struck a chord with me so far is from Lesson 2, where Alsford talks about the three Rs: Remain, Renew, and Rest.
I also liked the quote from Tim Hansel “You can memorize all the words, but if you’ve forgotten the music, you still won’t be able to sing the song.” Being a Christian is about more than just going through the motions; it’s about really and truly accepting Christ Jesus into your heart and soul.
I like the prayer in Lesson 3 that says “Lord, If I stop and look, I can see Your hand all around me. Cause me to stop and look today. Amen.” It’s a great reminder that God is all around us.

    1. By putting Him and his teachings and principles first in my daily living….
    2. Yes, I am aware of the Holy Spirit living in me since accepting Jesus as my Saviour at age 15. The Holy Spirit guides, strengthens, comforts, corrects and does for me just like the Scripture teaches.
    3. I can fix my eyes on Jesus today by seeing my circumstances and others around me the way He would. Doing Bible studies like this one helps to stay focused!
    4. God has been faithful to me through the years… his mercies are new every morning and GREAT is his faithfulness!!!
    5. The reminder that “THE LORD ALMIGHTY IS WITH US”.

  • Kelly says:

Q1, Make him the first thing I go to in the morning, in prayer and bible study.
Q2.I am aware every time I get sucked in to the earthly things that do not feel right and when I worry about things that i shouldn’t. I need to stay focused on Him and pray,
Q3.What has helped me actually is this bible study, it has made me get into my bible more and have those aha! moments. I am more committed because through this book I understand things better than other church group studies, What hinders me is lack of discipline from technology distractions and my worries.
Q4.God blessed me with 2 children and that showed me the kind of love He has for me.
Q5. What I have taken from this study and book is that he will always be there for us ,We just need to trust in Him more and know that he will get us through anything. It has also taught me i have a purpose, I am suppose to be here, he created me! I struggle with that because my father was not around and he was married to another woman when he and my mother were together, I felt as though I was a mistake. God makes no mistakes! I am worthy of his love like we all are! I finally get it after 43 years and several churches later 🙂 I finally had my aha! moment, some of us are more hard headed than others 🙂
