Welcome back to online Bible study as we discuss He Is My All by Debbie Alsdorf. We’ve just finished reading lesson one (week one) in the book and will be discussing this in small groups. Last week many women participated in the small groups and it was exciting! We have room for everyone…you just need to find a group that works best for your schedule. All groups are open attendance so try another group if the group you attended was moving to fast. To earn a Certificate of Completion for this online Bible study, you’ll need to attend 8 of the 10 small group sessions.
Our reading assignment this week focused on the relationship of love- specifically, God’s love. Women often tell me they are frustrated in their relationship and want a deeper experience with God. During the course of our Bible study and searching truth in scripture, you will deepen your own love relationship with Him. My own journey with God moved from a rules-based relationship (head knowledge) to a love-based relationship (heart knowledge) and my prayer is that you will discover this too. Debbie Alsdorf explains, “It is possible to be religious while not having any personal relationship with God. This kind of religious experience is empty and frustrating.” For some of you, this study will be the beginning of your personal relationship with God and for others, you’re on a journey to deepen it.
I looked up the word “relationship” in the dictionary this week and it is defined as a “connection, association or involvement; it might be a connection between blood or marriage.” Then I thought of the blood of Christ and the marriage of the Lamb. These two verses jumped into my mind:
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:1 NIV
Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Revelation 19:7 NIV
As Christians, we are in relationship with God- now and in the future! That alone makes my heart leap with joy! He is not a past-tense God or a futuristic character from a novel…He is the present and living God and you are invited into a relationship rooted in His Love. For me to have a relationship with God means that I communicate with Him, love Him, trust Him, honor and obey Him. I’m motivated by love. Through Jesus, He has healed me, revived me and restored me..I am a Daughter of the King.
I do not live my life by a set of rules, but rather by a heart that is connected to the Holy Spirit. I give Him priority in my life because He completes me..on both sides of eternity. My love for Him overflows and pours into everything I do in His name. I’m thankful His love keeps no records of wrongs, because I am flawed and far from perfect. When I stumble, He corrects me. When I fear, He strengthens me. When I am lost, He finds me and loves me. I am His treasured possession, and so are you. I am a person greatly valued by God.
For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. Deut 7:6 NIV
I challenge you to stop living by rules of political correctness or rules of restrictive religion, and start living by rules of love. God’s love for you, His child, trumps everything human-made in this world. Live Up… in His Presence!
