Knowing God by Name: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure
by Sharon Jaynes, Mary Southerland and Gwen Smith

I’ve read through various books and studies on the names of God before, and yet the Girlfriends in God book, Knowing God by Name, still provided fresh insights, perspectives, and information about the character of God. knowinggodbyname

The book is structured as an eight-week journey through the names of God.  Each week contains five days’ worth of entries about the names of God written by one of the three authors.   The sixth entry in the week is called “Now It’s Your Turn,” which is perfect for personal response and deeper study or small group discussion for a women’s Bible study group.  All in all, the authors cover 40 names of God and provide 8 interactive lessons for individuals or groups.

I love the practical, story-telling style of all three of the authors and the way they relate the Bible to everyday life.  Not only that, but their love of God, their passion for Him, their testimonies of how life isn’t always perfect and yet God always remains faithful, clearly shine through the text.  I not only learned head knowledge from this book, but it felt like engaging relationally with the authors, being encouraged by them, and then applying the lessons to my own life.

This book covers names I’ve studied often before, like Abba, or Savior, Deliverer, and King of kings, as well as some lovely fresh insights on names like My Song, My Hope, and the Builder and Architect.  There are lessons here for the new believer, as well as the long-time Christian, helping all of us know God better.

I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
