Wonderstruck Online Bible Study Week 4

pray

Join us in online Bible study for women as we study Wonderstruck by Margaret Feinberg. This week we’re discussing week four in our small group sessions. We explored the wonder of prayer and then looked at many examples of when Jesus prayed. Margaret writes “Prayer is simply communicating with God. Through prayer we both listen and talk to God.” We saw how Jesus prayed alone, prayed for someone, or prayed in public. He did not wear specific prayer attire, perform rituals, or even go to the same location each time He prayed. Sometimes we can complicate these rituals in our hearts and our drive for perfection or rituals might cause a stumble in our prayer life. Prayer is simple.

In the book The Power of Simple Prayer, Joyce Meyer writes “Prayer is so simple; it’s nothing more than talking to God.” When is the last time you talked with the Father? The key to prayer is constant communication and trust, not the posture or words. In fact, the Holy Spirit will intercede on your behalf…your role is to simply get started! For some of you, this might be the point in Bible study where you need to say “Lord, teach me to pray.”

According to Joyce Meyer there are 14 Hindrances to Answered Prayer:

  1. Prayerlessness
  2. Lack of boldness
  3. Unconfessed sin
  4. Praying outside Gods will
  5. Praying with the wrong motives
  6. Doubt and unbelief
  7. Worry
  8. Lack of gratitude
  9. Negative confession
  10. Failure to focus
  11. Not caring for people in need
  12. Rebellion
  13. Unforgiveness
  14. Pride

This might be the week where you start a prayer journal. In one of my small groups someone mentioned that she has been waiting and waiting for God to answer a prayer, so I reminded her that Nehemiah prayed 90 days before God answered him. Another women mentioned that God answered her prayer, and she didn’t like His reply. We are not promised a quick answer or even an answer that we like. As long as we are in relationship with God, He listens to our prayers.

I’d like for us to lead a Bible study on prayer because this is one area that many women would like to dig deeper. Hopefully we can fit this into our schedule of studies sometime soon. Let’s pray on that! Meanwhile, you’ll find a list of books on prayer when you click here.

Prayer Requests

Our Prayer Wall has many requests, so please visit the page during the week and pray for these women who are asking for your help. If you have a prayer request, post a comment on the wall.

For Next Week

  • Read Week Five in your book.
  • Listen to Video Session Five (optional due to cost)
  • Check in with your Small Group for prayer requests and fellowship

1.What helps you keep a steady rhythm in your prayer life? (page 87)
I think I have developed a prayer life by being persistent with one-sentence prayers throughout the day over so many years, that now it is a natural part of my day.

2.When have you felt abandoned by God? How did you respond? (page 101)
There was a time when God answered No to a fervent prayer of mine…I felt confused, hurt, angry, heartbroken, . ..but I knew I couldn’t get through the pain without my Abba Father . .so I prayed for healing . . .and just slowly accepted I would never understand, but that God loved me and trust He saw what I couldn’t see. the healing has been slow . . .but I have grown in my trust and faith.

3.What is one obstacle in your life that you need to commit to God’s hands through prayer? (page 102) accepting reality

4.What are three reasons you’re tempted to give up prayer? (page 104) not feeling worthy to ask of God, the “no” was very hard to accept – how many more can this heart handle – – and sometimes the answers take a long time to come . .

5.What is one area of your life or person that you’ve given up praying for? (page 105
I will NEVER give up praying . .it is my lifeline!

I enjoyed this chapter a lot . .it made me think a lot about my response to God . . .

Sometimes the lie I let myself believe is without my parents prayers my life won’t be as purposeful as supposed to be in fulfilling His purpose in my life–my Mom had a quiet simple faithful way of believing in me like no other that made me feel theres NOTHING couldn’t accomplish in my life thru the power of Jesus help–I miss her/both parents for that BUT we have to remember that Death doesn’t stop that in my life because my Life is in Jesus whose eternal and Hes the One who just used my parents like that NOW I know He Believes in me because He lives in me, and said till the end of my life He will accomplish all He has to do in my, and He is praying for us even more then my parents ever did, He was there all the time!!Lord help turn my unbelief to belief, and my fears to Faith!!He helps us go above and beyond, thanks Ladies!!Carolyn[

When my marriage ended in 2005 after 12 years I was MAD as a rabid dog. I wasn’t mad at God but the situation because I had no idea my marriage was ending, what happened did I miss Gods voice? Did I not respond to the Holy Spirits leading why was this happening to me I moved from New York to be with my husband who lives in Chicago. God did you leave me because of my disobedience? I didn’t hear from the Holy Spirit, nor God it wasn’t until 2006 that I realized God was talking to me for a long time but I kept thinking it was relationship challenges, but it wasn’t. So thank you Holy Spirit for your guidance and for Jesus’ open doors.
