By October 16, 2011James

We hope you’ll join us in online bible study as we read Beth Moore’s newest study called James: Mercy Triumphs. This new bible study by Beth was just released on November 1, 2011.  She’s been writing this bible study for the past 18 months and digging into the life and book of James. To participate, you need a copy of the member workbook. Each week you’ll read your lessons at home, once a day. Then you’ll visit this site on Monday anytime and join us in a group discussion. We’ll post questions based on your weekly reading, and share our spiritual growth with one another. Please join us in this new Beth Moore bible study.

About the Book

James: Mercy Triumphs  by Beth Moore is the story of Jesus’ own brother, who started out as a skeptic. See how one glimpse of the resurrected Savior turned an unbeliever into a disciple. Topics in this study include: joy, hardship, faith, reversal of fortunes for rich and poor, wisdom, gifts from above, single-mindedness, the dangers of the tongue, humility, and prayer.  (source Lifeway.com)

I am doing the James study at my church. While I was digging through my journal I came across a writing I did on James 2:13 that I wanted to share. I didn’t know where else to post this.

    weakness
    over strength
    gentleness
    over anger
    mery
    over judgement

    Immanuel,
    Immanuel,
    teach me to
    my deepest depth.

    Immanuel, our Lamb of God,
    whose mercy
    is our strength;

    who can match
    your greatest gift
    of life eternal
    over death.

  • Leslie says:

Hi. My name is Leslie and this is my third Beth Moore bible study. The other two I did on my own and grew tremendously. I live in the Chicago metro area. This study is very timely for me because I have having real challenges with anger towards my sister for the first time. There is a significant age gap between us which encouraged a relationship where she was more of sister/aunt. However, I am now in my late 40s and she in her mid-60s. Our mother is in her 80s and still very active but is at a place where decisions and plans for her life need to be made. My sister has decided to abstain from any participation in planning for my mother and I feel angry and burdened. When I saw this study, I felt led by the Holy Spirit to do it. My prayer is that I will take on the heart and mind of Christ in handling this situation. My prayer is that I will let the anger go and still love my sister as I always did even though she had disappointed me. Isn’t that what God does with us?

For my gift, I asked to have a family activity that my parents, siblings, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew could enjoy. At the end of the day, I wanted to have a family picture, to commemorate the event. It was decided we would all go to a place called Dave & Busters, a food/ entertainment place with lots of games and activities. To my surpise, all of my family members participated and had a great time. It was a great gift to have the entire family get a wonderful memory out of it. 🙂

Many of my memories go back to that time when I was going camping, earning badges related to crafts, sewing, outings, etc. At this moment I can’t pick just one……maybe a particular camping trip. I learned valuable lessons during this time. Also, I was blessed to have a mother who was one of the most godlly, nurturing, and fun loving people I have ever had the great honor to know. Mercy could have been her middle name. She left a priceless legacy. She is in Heaven now.

My name is Tammy and I am from Alaska. Like others here, I have so many fond memories, its hard to choose just one. But I’m going to choose one from my childhood — when I was about 9 years old and living in New Mexico, my grandparents came down from Alaska and we all took our campers and traveled from New Mexico to Florida for a two or three week vacation to visit all my relatives on my mother’s side of the family. There were 9 of us all together in two campers … what a great time we had. I am new to the online Bible study and just purchased my Beth Moore book for the study on James. You may have to be patient with me as I learn about this new method of posting and Bible study but I am looking forward to this.

  • Marietta says:

Hello! I’m coming in late and hope that’s okay. I just ordered the book and will rpobably have it in a week. So, I’ll do a lot of reading as soon as it comes. I don’t have a church home so joining women for study is extra special. I think this is my fourth Bible Study here at the Cafe. Thank you!

The rink, the hot chocolate, taking forever to put on all the pads, Dad tying the skates because once you have all the equipment on there’s no bending over, and just playing for hours, indoors or outdoors.

My favorite childhood memories are all outdoors: tromping thru the woods & the creek behind our home; playing soccer & tennis; & summers!! We hung out at the lake w/ my friends, plus nature’s bounty… peaches, blackberries, and wild strawberries…One exception! Our fancy Christmas teas we had all over town at each others’ homes throughout DEC!!! I did the same here in Dallas for my girls while they were growing up. Cherished it.

  • Tracey says:

I am from Lubbock, Texas. I teach second grade and have 3 children of my own. I have been married for almost 23 years. I am new to the online bible study process so I may need to ask for help. LOL I am hoping that my 21 year old daughter will join me in this study. My favorite childhood memory I guess would be roaming free in a tiny small town in west Texas. I could ride my bike all around town, stop off at the local Matador Variety Store and buy a piece of candy for next to nothing. Unlike today’s generation, I had No worries in the world back then.

  • Michelle says:

Currently living in Eagle River, AK – grew up in Central Illinois. We lived directly across from the country club which had a pool, a huge valley with a stream that ran into a lake and my best memories were being able to freely roam this neighborhood or go to the pool without the fear that seems to be so prevalent today. We played in the trees, in the corn fields, went to the pool without adult supervision – it was a magical time of learning independence ….while getting into my fair share of trouble and learning the lessons of life and consequences.

    Hi,
This is the first time I’ve done anything like this, so please be patient with me. I’m not that great at using the computer.
My name is Jody. I’m from Missouri, and let’s see favorite child hood memory: I’m not quite sure how to answer this. The only thing that comes to mind is: My Mom was blind so I was very active in the Blind Center for Blind People. Each year we had what’s called Daisy Day, where we would basically walk all over town selling daisies to raise money for the Blind Center. I was amongst the children which basically consisted of one girl, (me), and four boys. We would sell daisies and then sometime during the weekend we would all meet at the theatre and go to a show and have popcorn together. I think this is probably hard for you to understand, but it was really a fun weekend working together.
I’m really looking forward to this study and getting to know everyone.

Thanks for leading this awesome study! I’m praising God for the amazing things to come!

  • Shukeria Anderson says:

Hi! My name is Shukeria Anderson and this is my first time engaging in an online Bible study. I am from Tifton, GA about three hours from Atlanta, Ga. I have done Bible studies in the past with various groups and different churches – I really enjoyed it but I just stopped going (not quite sure why). I am at a point in my life where I am hungry for the word again and need to start feeding my soul. I ordered my book from Lifeway as well and hopefully it will be here in the next couple of days. I am really excited and can’t wait to get started. My favorite family memory is at Christmas when everyone is around the tree opening and exchanging gifts.

  • Carolyn says:

  • Tiffani says:

I did not have this problem . I received my book last week. It took my order a week to arrive. Kristy and Christine, I hope you two get your books in time. I wonder what the issue is with Amazon?

    • Christine says:

I have my books they arrived the end of October from Lifeway. I contacted Lifeway for those of you who are buying from Amazon, and they said they will look into this. They said Amazon buys the books from them (Lifeway is a publisher) and the books are in stock at this time. Best recommendation: buy them from Lifeway, unless you need international shipping. My hope is someday these books will be in eBook format and easier to access. 🙂

  • Kristy says:

Hello! My name is Kristy and I’m new to the online Bible study, too. I’m in the process of trying to get a book…(Amazon says 1-2 months, so I’m going to BooksAMillion and my local Lifeway tomorrow to look for it!) I’m from West Tennessee and have been on a spiritual journey for a long time (raised United Methodist, converted to Catholicism, now looking again to United Methodist). I think my favorite family memory would be our family vacations to Gatilinburg when I was little.

    • Christine says:

I ordered mine from Lifeway.com because I do not have a Lifeway store near me. I wonder if Amazon even has the books in stock? You’re the 2nd person to say Amazon will ship in December and I thought this was international shipping only. I checked the Amazon website and it says “Ships in 1-2 months” I will send an email to Lifeway and let the know this is happening. Thanks for the feedback!

After extensive counseling she slowly ventured from her home – – I remember the first day she stood on her front stoop -a big accomplishment for her . . .well a year later she made the trip from NY to Tennessee to visit us – – her joy in seeing nature made us all appreciate the beauty God created . . .I smile every time I think of that day, even though it’s been about 15 years ago now!

  • melissa says:

hello melissa from belmont, north carolina. many, many, many wonderful family memories seeming being built on daily. most recent last night. my father-in-love is dying. we have had many “this could be it” family reunions, seemingly closer and closer together. he LOVES the Lord and his countenance is so sweet with the presence of our Father. Last night I said “goodbye Daddy” and “see you next Sunday”. He returned with his sweet “love you girl”. I replied “love you too daddy”. Significance? my dad has passed away for more than 10 years. my mother and him have been divorced since i was 5. i never had a relationship with him deeper than that formative first 5 years. i guess that hurt laid deeper in me than i realized because calling this man daddy last night broke something in me. i ran out to my husband and told him how i never could call his dad “daddy” because of the place that my dad held in my heart. but doing it last night opened up a comfort i never had before. the Lord immediately quickened my Spirit and made me realize I was telling the wrong person. i returned to my “daddy’s” bed and told him what calling him “daddy” meant to me and how his life in my life had brought such a wonderful healing. i just wanna thank my Father in heaven because no matter what He has always been on my side and through each day has created a favorite memory for me.

I am from Belmont, North Carolina. To pin point one family memory would be hard to do. Our family is very close and I cherish each and every time we are together. Joyous and Tragic. I do have a life changing memory that is none like any other and that is when my granddaughter Ruby was born. Now that’s a memory.

  • Ann says:

My name is Ann and I live in Iowa. I am excited to do a Beth Moore study again. My favorite memory is chasing waves with my husband and two sons. We were RVing and camped along the Atlantic Ocean and had such fun running in the water and trying to outrun the waves before they knocked us down!

  • Kim Waide says:

Hi, my name is Kim. I currently live in St. Louis but will be moving to Cincinnati in the near future. I’m really hungry for spiritual food and have been praying that God would show me where to find a Bible study group – and here I am! I’m excited to get started on this new spiritual adventure!
My favorite family memory is of a vacation we took to Yellowstone when my daughters were young – we drove across country and stopped at every tourist trap along the way and had a blast – from the worlds biggest ball of twine to rock city!

  • Christy says:

Hi, I’m Christy and I live in Wisconsin. My favorite family memory is when we took our son (I was pregnant with our daughter so she was along too) to the island where my husband and I got married and where he spent a lot of time as a child.

  • Jenn says:

My name is Jenn, from North Port, Florida. This will be my 2nd study here and can’t wait!

I don’t have just one favorite family memory but a great one was this summer when we went to Michigan with our three (then 15 months, 5 & 8) to see my husband’s parents and his sisters. It was so much fun to watch the kids play with their cousins up there, who are all very close in age. It was the first time my husband’s dad and stepmom had all 7 grandkids together at once!!

  • Caroll says:

    Caroll, Okla.
So many great memories: BEING TOGETHER when we are all home at mom and dads (my family is currently scattered from East to West Coast yet we have always come together for the holidays) and have time off to enjoy the time without demands of worklife. We have been blessed. The holidays where everything is casual, comfortable, happiness prevails and homecooked food is abundant, our favorite football teams are playing, family games (sequence, phase 10, catch phrase), watching our favorite treasured movies while making a palate where we all dogpile on the floor with pillows, blankets and popcorn, all movies we have seen many times before and rides to the farm to feed the cows with dad and ride the 4-wheelers all over the pastures, having bonfires and cooking out and packing the car to the max with whomever fits and making icecream and eggnog runs and showing up to church as a clan and seeing my “home” church family. Lots of love, laughter and bonding.

  • Sheree says:

Sheree from South Carolina. I have so many favorite memories, but my very favorite family memory is when the children were all small (ages 3, 6, and 8) and we spent a week in Orlando in a condo and went to Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios and Gatorland Zoo…what an awesome time we had!!

    • Sheree says:

Now isn’t that funny….the ages of my childre were (3, 6 and 8) and I got a smiley sun with sunglasses in place of the “8”….too funny…but true we were in sunny Orlando, Fla!

  • Angie says:

Angie, Kansas City, Missouri. My favorite family memory is the last 18 years watching my son grow into the awesome young man he is today.

I am beyond excited about this study; can’t wait!

  • Ann Webb says:

My name is Ann. I am from Springfield, Illinois but am now married to a British citizen and live in Colchester, Essex in the UK. This is my first study at the Women’s Bible Study Cafe. I’ve ordered my book and hope I get it in time! I’m looking forward to it.

My favorite family memories are holidays with my three kids and my former husband. We would have Thanksgiving dinner and then play games when other family members came over. My kids are now grown and still live in the States.

  • Sue Alice says:

Sue Alice, Greenwood, IN My favorite memories are when all the family can come to one place to see each other. We are about three hours from most of them, but others over three or four days driving time.

Blessings to all and prayers to everyone. Lets all remember Christine as she leads us in this study and as she has done so many others for us.. Please remember we would not be here if it was not for her. She is truly a woman after Gods heart.

Checking in from Arizona. This will be my 5th online Bible Study here at Woman’s Bible Cafe. I find the insights of Christine and others who comment their responses to be very helpful. These life-applicable studies are a great way to stay connected with Christian women.

My favorite family memories are holidays when my now adult children come to visit. We watch movies, play Wii and Scrabble until late. We have big breakfasts and then spend all day cooking and baking our holiday dinner. I can’t wait until they all come here to our new residence here in Arizona.

    • Sue Alice says:

This will make about six or seven studies for me. My daughter-step lives in Surprize, AZ. Glad to have you here. Blessings.

  • Christine says:

Christine, California Bay Area. My favorite family memory is the time we drove the kids through the mountains during a forest fire. We prayed our way down the mountain as fire workers encouraged us to drive over smoking roads. In the backseat, I heard my 7 year old daughter Katy say “God cleared out the trees and is making room for new lives. Many animals died in the fire so God could create new ones.” It was unforgettable.
