Sometimes He Calms the Storm (VOG-Week 4.5)
Thanks so much for coming back for the last day of week four of our study, Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer. We have discussed a lot of inspiring things this week.
Today Priscilla discusses how the voice of God can come in a powerful and authoritative wayto speak to the circumstances in our life. We are reminded of how Jesus spoke to the waves of the storm in Luke 8:24-26 which you will find below:
They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm. And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?”
We are reminded that our God created the waters and divided water from dry land in Genesis 1:7 and 9. He is all power and authority in our lives. You might say, “Well, I’m in a storm right now and the waves are crashing all around me. Will my storm be calmed?” We must remember God is God and he doesn’t always do things the way we think he should but I think we always must ask ourselves if we are truly going to the Lord in the midst of our storm to tell Him we are perishing? Have we searched His word? Have we spent time in prayer? Have we heard His voice telling us to do something but we did not obey? If we have done all these things then we have to have faith that He is holding us in the midst of the storm. That is faith.
Prayer
Jehovah Elohim, our Creator and the Creator of all things, we ask you to speak to us in the storms of our life. Guide us and counsel us Lord by your Holy Spirit. I pray that we would be obedient in all things and that we would experience your peace even in the midst of the storm. In the mighty and powerful Name of Jesus we pray. Amen
Quotes by Priscilla Shirer
“God’s voice alone has the authority to accomplish what we need.”
“Many times God will sovereignly take us on a journey to the fulfillment of His word to us, but whether the result is instant or gradual, God shows his authority.”

Let’s Talk About It
I have had some monumental things happen in my life where I instantly was delivered from something while reading His word and crying out to Him, and I cherish those moments, but I also have circumstances I have been praying about for many many years. We have to remember that God is sovereign and the more we seek to know Him the more we will begin to see evidence of His working in our life. Sometimes it is quick and other times we just have to hold on to Him in the midst of it all. Have faith. Enjoy the video for today.

My work schedule is my “storm” at the moment. I work nights and having a messed up schedule, really messes me up, and this next month and a half is really a “mess” in my book. I got the schedule by phone and wrote it in my day planner, and a friend happened to be here. She said I handled it better than I used to, but she knew I was quite upset. Eventually we did what I should have done originally, instead of fuming over it, she and I prayed over it and pray that I have the right words when I call my boss over it, as I am shorted a shift, and then put on long stretches for remainder, so feel I can’t just “let it go”. God is giving me a calm about it though, and praise Him, He’ll handle the phone conversation tomorrow as well. Would wait til Mon, but the person who does the schedule is working tomorrow, so maybe they can work something out. Give me wisdom! Thank you Lord that you are in control, and will give me right words through this very tiny “storm”… and thank you for calming this child…..
Praying wisdom for you Pam which I see showing up for you more and more in your life. Blessings!
In my current storm, I find myself knowing I couldn’t face another minute without God. I don’t like being in this storm, I didn’t put myself in this storm, I had no warning it was coming, it has turned my world upside down and inside out – -I don’t know when the clouds will recede . .but I do KNOW, with all my heart, soul and mind that God is with me. I liked when Priscilla said, I don’t know where today will lead, but God, I’m going with you. So, today, I will go with God, trusting Him. Even in this storm.
Praying Deut 6:5 “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”
Praying for God to calm His child Susan as she goes “through” this storm.
The waves will not overtake her in the name of Jesus. Amen
