Is His Word In Your Heart? (VOG-Week 3.4)
Welcome back to the Bible Café for Women as we go further into week three of “Discerning the Voice of God” from Priscilla Shirer.
Today’s lesson discusses the importance of spending time in the Word of God reading, meditating, and memorizing it. How many times have we heard and read this since we have become Christians? I have often thought about being stranded somewhere without the Bible and how much of God’s Word I would really have hidden within me. Would I continue to hear from the Holy Spirit with hidden word or would I long for those words written on those pages I could so freely go to before I was stranded? I pray God’s mercy that I would never be tested in this but there are people all over this world who don’t have three or four different translations of the Bible in their homes—they have none. Some are so hungry to know God through his Word that they take the chance of carrying with them pages torn from a Bible or small scraps of paper with words from the Bible written on them. When my mind goes to this I always immediately hear, “meditate on it day and night”. This is coming from within me but it’s just a portion of Psalm 1:2 which says: “But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” It would probably be more pleasing to God if I had this “whole” scripture in me and that may be why the Holy Spirit keeps bringing this scenario up to me. As you can see the Holy Spirit wants to bring this word to our remembrance when needed but it is our responsibility to take the effort to do it.
One other thing from this lesson worth mentioning is from Hebrews 4:12. It says, in part, that the word of God is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. It will show us areas that don’t line up with the Word and God’s desire. Are we doing something to put the spotlight on ourselves or do we desire to glorify God in all that we do? God only acknowledges pure motives and if your motive is not pure the Word of God will usually convict you—if you are reading and meditating on it. I hope we will be stirred more than ever by this lesson to make time daily for God’s Word. Let’s take steps to encourage one another to write it on the tablets of our heart .
Today’s Prayer
Lord, forgive us for not spending as much time in your Word as we know we should. From your Word we receive instruction, conviction, and transformation. Psalm 119:105 says that your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path. Order our steps Lord by your Word. We delight ourselves in you Lord and we love you with our heart, soul, mind, and strength. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
Quotes by Priscilla Shirer
“The more time you spend in the Word of God, the clearer the separation will become between your own desires and what the Holy Spirit is telling you.”
“The more Scripture you have hidden in your heart, the more opportunity He will have to bring it to your mind and direct you.”
Today’s Scripture Verses (NASB)
“Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?” And they took offense at Him. Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household.” Mark 6:3-4
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Heb 4:12
There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. Prov 14:12
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness. 2 Tim 3:16
Let’s Talk About It
Have you ever had a time when the Holy Spirit brought a scripture to your remembrance that you didn’t even realize was in you? Did you know why it was brought up?
