We are still working in the Breaking Free Updated Edition Bible Study written by Beth Moore as we learn more about our obedience to God.
Beth explains the connection between our obedience and trust as children of God. She even shares her own story of rebellion, coming from a child who learned not to trust adults.
We learn that living by our own rules instead of God rules is unhealthy and leads us into bondage. As we continue our daily Bible study, we are Breaking Free from this unhealthy bondage-set the prisoners free!
Here is some music to enjoy with today’s lesson!
Never Let Go by Matt Redman
Prayer Requests
Father God, we thank you for the many times you have shown yourself as the One we can trust. We ask for continued obedience in our lives, as we honor you with our words and actions, and you fill us with your blessings. Amen.
Beth Moore Quotes
- The obedient life flows most beautifully from trust-Beth Moore
Today’s Scripture Verses
Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? Romans 6:16
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19
Group Discussion
Have you observed any problems with authority in your life. How do they impact your relationship with God?
Breaking free,

I have always been the follower (funny side note: when I applied for college the application asked are you a follower or a leader? I answered truthfully – follower – my acceptance letter read “if you would like to go to school with 800 leaders and two followers we’d love to have you!” – - I find comfort in having someone in authority over me . ..but I have expectations concerning them.
I think that I have learned over the years that people fail – they don’t mean to, but they do and that has strengthened my relationship with God in that I see Him as He is . .. forgiving, powerful, kind, all-knowing . . ..
I’m a follower until I get hurt by that person I am following. I have been let down so many times in the past by people, but I’ve never been let down by God. He never lets Go, even if I do. He stays right there until I call His name, all it takes is for His children to call His name, He’ll come running! I’m thankful I have a the best leader of all, Jesus Christ, the one I can always rely on, the one who will never let me down.

I have always been a follower. I always thought I didnt want to speak up because I didnt want to hurt their feelings. So I just went along with them. I have since then realized that following isnt always what it is cracked up to be. So over the last year I have tried to break free from being just a follower and try to be good leader for the young girls in my church. It was not easy at first but the Lord is helping me with beinging my Leader.
