Welcome back to the Bible Cafe and our current study, Breaking Free Updated Edition as we finish week eight today. This lesson has been painful for me, after witnessing the failure of human love, while simultaneously studying about God’s love-all from the perspective of a child! We’re so close to breaking free..I can feel it in my heart and soul!
From personal experience, a child who believes her father does not love her:
- Feels self-loathing
- Experiences low self-esteem
- Seeks alternative sources to replace her fathers love
- Experiences depression
In contrast, a child who believes she is loved by her father will:
- Seek opportunities to share her love with him
- Enjoy being in his presence
- Trust him with her fears
- Praise him before others
In counseling, we learn that we cannot control other people and how they behave to us, but we can control how we react towards them. It is essential for a child who feels unloved by her human father to feel loved by her Father God. Reminding her that she is loved and she is important to Him, and that Jesus died on the cross as a sign of God’s love for her, is a reminder of the security she needs to feel in her heart. We need to remind her that God’s love is not human love.
Prayer Requests
We pray for the young children who feel unloved by human fathers, sometimes hurt with words, physical abuse or obvious hatred. May the light of father God shine through their hearts, showing these children that they are loved and treasured by the Father who created them. Bring the light of the spirit to these children, fill their hearts with a dependable God and His unyielding love-Amen.
