Shield of Faith (Day 4.3)

BibleCafeBlavatarThank you for visiting the Bible Cafe!

We’re learning that the greatest weapon against the roaring lion is the gift of prayer and a Shield of Faith. We watch and pray so we do not fall into temptation.

Today’s study is one of my favorite because I’ve experienced the benefits of having a Shield of Faith. When the doctor thought I had Ovarian Cancer, scheduled me for surgery and placed me on pre-surgery medication as we waited for the results of the biopsy, I shouted my verses at Satan. He was hovering around me trying to fill my heart with fear.

Each time I thought of “having cancer” I immediately drew from my Shield of Faith and found comfort in the word God. I fell at the feet of God with scripture verses. My Prayer Warriors were united with me as we prayed for healing.

Guess what happened? While I waited for the biopsy results, the symptoms went away. The doctor called and informed me the biopsy was negative, and asked if I wanted the surgery anyway “just in case.” It seems the pre-surgery medications healed the symptoms! This is my own experience and in my case the doctor was wrong and I did not have cancer.

Unfortunately many women do have the illness and are suffering through painful cancer treatment. I’m praying now for Lanie’s Mom, a young Mom with breast cancer,  a teenager with bone cancer, a seven-year-old with leukemia and for Kate McRae. We all know families touched by cancer and we can help them with our Shield of Faith. Pray for them please.

Jennifer Rothschild has compiled “Shield of Faith Verses” on page 90 in your workbook. Here is an idea for you:

Print the Shield of Faith Verses
If you’re like Mary, you can print them on 3 x 5 white index cards and carry them in your handbag
If you’re like Martha, you can

  • Use fancy fonts and icons
  • Alphabetize them
  • Find scrapbook pages to match the verse
  • Put them on both sides of a wide bookmark, laminated
  • Give 100 copies of the Shield of Faith Verses Prayer Cards, to your family and friends, as an affordable Christmas Gift

I’m a Martha, so I’ll be giving these for Christmas gifts and start my shopping in July. :-) Seriously, they are great verses to share with a friend in need or carry in your handbag.

Today’s Verses

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak. Matthew 26:41

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Ephesians 6:18

Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiates 4:12

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Ephesians 6:16

Prayer Requests

We’re still praying for Lanie and her Mom’s Ovarian Cancer. Our hearts are with you both.

We’re including a prayer request from Lil as she plows through a financial struggle and seeks peace from her stress.

Pray for every person you know who has cancer or a family member with cancer.
